LOCAL PRACTITIONERS GATHER IN PROTEST OF ARCANE TAXATION
By Ezekiel “Zeke” Thornwood
Cleveland, April 1 1920 — A gathering of practitioners convened late yesterday near Public Square, voicing their dissatisfaction with the Wizard Council’s newly imposed restrictions and taxation upon magical goods.
Attendees, including alchemists, ward-crafters, and independent charm sellers, expressed concern that the measures would hinder both trade and livelihood. Several speakers argued that the Council has failed to adequately communicate the intent or necessity of the new laws.
The assembly remained largely orderly, though spirited exchanges were observed between demonstrators and Council envoys dispatched to monitor proceedings. At one point, minor illusions were conjured in defiance, drawing both applause and reprimand.
City authorities, in coordination with arcane officials, maintained a visible presence but did not intervene.
Organizers have indicated that further gatherings may be forthcoming should no response be issued. The situation remains under close observation as tensions continue to mount within the magical community.
